Vaccine Politics

Because of today's political battles it makes unifying towards a common goal almost impossible as not everyone can get along. This is going on today as you can see as countries work completely independent of each other to create and distribute a vaccine. This competition drives a more advanced vaccine that is the most effective as the company/country that comes out with the most successful one first will become a global superpower. This also brings up some problems especially if you are not in the country that wins this war to finding a vaccine as the citizens of those losing countries could be in trouble. For example, let's assume that China develops the best vaccine for the virus this week. All the vaccines in development in the US and everywhere else in the world were vastly inferior and still in the early stages of clinical trials. This would be a serious problem for the United States as since recently the United States was in the driver's seat for the negotiating a trade deal between China and the USA. If this vaccine in china were to be discovered then it would allow for China to renegotiate the terms of this deal causing the US to get screwed over and loose millions of dollars. The good news about this situation is that I don't think any country will simply withhold the vaccine from other countries but would instead sell it for a steep price. This would be another positive of this competition as no country would turn down making billions by selling the vaccine out of spite. I believe this scenario would work almost the exact same if the US got to the vaccine first and I think Russia finding this magical vaccine faster than any other country on the planet is downright improbable however if this somehow happens than it could also pose a potential problem for the US because of the results of the most recent election. Here with Biden in the White house Russia could be pushed further from the US and is one of the few countries known for withholding aid out of spite. Here i believe it would be naive to think the power would not shift to whoever holds the most successful vaccine but because money makes the world go round I don't believe the vaccine will be openly withheld from any country.

Whos on top in the production of a COVID-19 vaccine?
Whos on top on creating a COVID-19 vaccine first?
